Kate's philosophy sounds simple, but it's not something most of us could easily live by: "Wherever I go on this planet, I earn my living there and spend my income there." Kate adds, "I have always supported myself and my son as an artist. I never wanted to work for anyone else, and I always believed I would make it as an artist if I just hung on, listened to my inner voice, and was driven by it."
And an artist she has certainly been. Kate grew up in England and was trained as an actress at the Old Vic in Bristol. From there, she moved on to Hollywood but got her biggest break in New York, where she was part of the original company of Oh Calcutta. To augment her living as an actress, she made leather clothing for rock-and-roll artists. Looking for beads to decorate the leather clothing, she naturally progressed into jewelry design in 1973...
